Do You Detox?

You aren’t on any special program, you are definitely not drinking a lemon cayenne and syrup picture and you are not by any means starving yourself with a liquid diet so you are not detoxing or are you?

Do you drink water, eat vegetables and fruit, sleep and urinate each day? Are you surprised to learn that you are unconsciously detoxing?

Most of us are not aware of the power our organs have to clean our body. With each bite of the delicious veggies and fruits you consume you are delivering a mouthful of antioxidants and phytonutrients to your organs to start the daily cleaning process.

So what are antioxidants and phytonutrients? Antioxidants are the organic substances or enzymes that counteract the damaging effects of oxidation in animal tissue and phytonutrients are the powerful bioactive chemical compounds found in plants as antioxidants that are beneficial to humans. Mother Nature’s detoxing program is easily accessible from your garden, fruit & vegetable stand, farm to table program or pesticide free veggies and fruits from your local grocer. Consuming 3-5 servings daily of both fruits and vegetables keeps your natural detoxification system healthy.

In cases where there is a cause for extreme detoxification a controlled fast is needed to eliminate the bad waste that is trapped leaving our organs in a sluggish state. Stress, chemical dependency, alcohol, tobacco, chemotherapy, radiation, sugar, environmental toxins and metals all create a perfect environment for free radicals to attack our body.

Forced or controlled detoxification begins with a weaning of meats, poultry, fish, carbohydrates, sugar, alcohol and tobacco, followed by a cleansing process via a liquid diet and then a reintroduction of healthy foods. The detoxification process allows your organs to take a break from processing the foods that put added stress on our purification system. The much needed rest for our organs allows them to destress and take a break from the daily pressures needed to purify us.

A bonus of a controlled detoxification usually results in weight loss. Many mistake this weight loss as a permanent measure, it is not. Detoxification removes toxins from our bodies, not fat. The weight loss is made up of the water that carries out the toxins and sludge that are trapped in our organs.
